Island Hvar

The island of Hvar has already built a tourist "brand" for itself and is a well-known tourist destination within and outside the framework of our country, as a place of exceptional rest and entertainment. The island of Hvar is famous for one of the most beautiful islands in the world and is known for its medicinal herbs (primarily lavender), the Croatian record for the largest number of sunny days in a year, beautiful beaches and rich gastronomic offer. The town of Hvar, as attractive tourist destination, offers numerous contents of a sports, cultural and economic character, so is also an important nautical point on the map of Europe and the Mediterranean. This is supported by the rich medieval cultural heritage that emphasizes the centuries-old urban character of the town of Hvar with significant literary, scientific, commercial and maritime activity.


Jelsa is located on the north and south coast of the central part of the island of Hvar. It covers 121.2 km2. The area of ​​the municipality, as well as the entire island, has a richly indented coast with associated islets, many coves and islands. Jelsa is bordered by the two highest island peaks, in the west Sv. Nikola, and in the east Hum. It has a mild climate, with warm winters and pleasant summers, and the entire area of ​​the municipality abounds with luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation.
